Electricians North Sydney FAQs
Can't spot what you're after below? Call (02) 9054 3079 and talk it through with a real person rather than scrolling further. These are the questions North Sydney homeowners, strata managers and builders ask us most.
Common questions
How Fast We Get to You
How soon can you fit me in?
Often same or next day, though we never promise an exact time before we've heard the job. A real person answers the phone, takes the details, and books you a slot that works. Genuine emergencies get priority ahead of the regular booking queue.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Visible sparking, a burning smell from a switch or point, live wires you can see, or the power dropping out for no clear reason. If the whole street is dark, that's a network issue outside our control; anything from your switchboard in is ours to sort.
What happens after I call?
We ask a few questions to understand the job, give you a realistic window, and lock in a time that works. On the day, the price goes on paper before anything is touched, and a Certificate of Compliance follows once it's signed off.
How do I book?
Call (02) 9054 3079 and speak to a real person, or send the details through our contact page if it's after hours. Either way, we call back to confirm a time and what the job involves before anyone heads out.
Common questions
Pricing, Straight Up
How do I pay?
The price we quote is the price you pay, agreed and put in writing before we start. We don't charge by the hour, and payment is due once the job's finished and signed off, matched exactly to that written price with nothing tacked on afterwards.
Do prices change once you start?
Not for anything visible at quote stage, no. If we find something we genuinely couldn't have seen with the board closed, we stop, explain it, and agree a new price before going further. Nothing changes without you saying yes first.
What does "$50 off your first service" cover?
It's taken straight off the invoice for your first booking with us, whatever the job turns out to be. No forms, no promo code to hunt down, just $50 off what the quote already says.
How do quotes work?
Someone comes out, has a look at what's involved, and hands you a free written quote on the spot, no call-out fee for quoting. Once you accept it, that price is locked in, so what you sign off on is exactly what lands on the invoice.
Common questions
Working in and Around North Sydney
Do you work on heritage/strata properties?
Plenty of both. North Sydney still has Federation terraces standing near streets like Napier Street, alongside strata blocks from every era since. Heritage wiring gets treated carefully around original features, and strata jobs get scheduled around body corporate access rather than just turning up.
How local are you, really?
We're not a call centre routing your job elsewhere, we're working North Sydney streets on a normal week, phone ringing or not. It's a crew who knows what a 1960s switchboard here looks like before the panel's even open.
Can you handle new builds and renovations here?
Both, regularly. Newer developments around the retail core near Greenwood Plaza need boards wired to current spec from the first fix, while spring tends to be when a lot of North Sydney's heritage terraces go under the tools, often surfacing wiring that hasn't been touched in decades.
What suburbs do you service?
North Sydney and next door: Crows Nest, Cammeray, Neutral Bay, Waverton and Kirribilli. We also cover St Leonards. Wherever you're calling from on that list, it's the same licensed team, the same straightforward pricing, and the same guarantee behind the work.
Common questions
Licensing and Safety
What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?
A safety switch (RCD) trips the circuit almost instantly if current goes somewhere it shouldn't, like through a person rather than back along the wire. Plenty of older homes don't have one on every circuit yet, since they only became compulsory more recently, and fitting them is one of the simplest safety jobs we do.
What is AS/NZS 3000?
It's the rulebook that governs how Australian homes get wired, setting out things like cable sizing, circuit protection and earthing. We work to it on every job, and notifiable work gets a Certificate of Compliance lodged with NSW Fair Trading before we call it finished.
What brands do you install?
Clipsal and Hager for switchboards and wiring accessories, SAL and Beacon Lighting for fittings: premium gear, not cheap imports. It costs a little more upfront, but it holds up years after cheaper gear would have already let you down.
Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?
No. DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW outside a short list of very minor jobs, like swapping a light globe. Notifiable work has to be carried out and signed off by a licensed electrician, and that's the law under NSW Fair Trading, not just our preference.
